Papaw's Punkin Pickin'
10/03/2024
Yes, I'm still alive and kicking! This year has been crazy-busy (a good thing!) and I've let my blogging fall by the wayside. My last post was 8 months ago...wow, time sure does fly when you're having fun!
So I'll try to pick it up and get going again...and what better way than to start out with one of our favorite fall traditions.
We were thankful that 10 of the 12 grandkids were able to be there. The teenage boys were planning to come, but the Friday night football game was postponed because there was no electricity at the football field where they were to play, so the game was rescheduled to Saturday afternoon, smack dab in the middle of our planned get-together. But it is what it is...we were grateful that it worked out for the younger 10 to be there.
From left: Abram (10 1/2 years), Daniel (6), Krew (10 1/2), Koda (7), Ada (2), Ellie (9 1/2), Juni (9), Kelsey (11 1/2), Lucy (8), Kassie (11 1/2)
Last weekend it was wet and rainy, as Indiana was getting the remains of Hurricane Helene's rainfall. But a little rain never stopped the Gray clan.
First activity of the afternoon was making 13 gallons of fresh cider...
This cider press is well over 100 years old, but continues to press those apples into some scrumptious cider.
Straining the apple juice before dispensing into the jugs....
Our littlest punkin-picker, Ada. This sweet and sassy little girl is now 2 years old and brings such joy to our family!
Twins Kelsey (in blue) and Kassie (purple) are about to celebrate their 12th birthdays already!
Juni (in pink) and Lucy (in background)...
...and Ellie. These 3 cousins have lots of girl-fun together!
Koda is 7, now a second-grader...
...and Daniel is 6 and in first grade.
For some reason, Daniel wouldn't go for the smaller pumpkins...he had to try to carry the ones that weighed almost as much as he does!
The mud might have not been ideal for the day, but for some it added to the enjoyment!
Abram and Krew are both 10 years old and didn't mind the mud at all!
Thank goodness for our big boys helping too!
Papaw helped spray kids and boots down...
Momma Kara and her two little punkins...
A muddy-but-fun time was had by all at...
...Papaw's Punkin Pickin'.
