Basketball Beginnings

Lucybb-63

After watching her brother Abram play basketball for a few years, now it's 6-year-old Lucy's turn to learn the game.

Her school basketball league is focused on teaching the game. Their weekly game nights consist of 40 minutes of practice and drills with a 20-minute scrimmage against another team at the end.

...and ball-handling skills. Some of these little girls' legs were barely long enough to fit the basketball between them.

Baby Ada...one of these days it will be your turn out there on the court!

Lucy really does very well dribbling the ball!

After the drills, it was time to put on their "jerseys" and scrimmage.

Lucy was all over that!

In fact, don't blink or Lucy will steal the ball away!

There are plenty of differences between girls' and boys' basketball, but one that makes me smile is the assortment of basketballs these girls use. No boy would be caught dead dribbling such a pretty ball...that's totally a girl thing, and I love it!

Lucy is very athletic and has those long arms and legs valued in basketball, so if she chooses to keep playing I know she has potential to be a very good player.

She's young but off to a good start!
