Volleyball Beginnings

Vb-25

Our 4th-grade twins Kelsey and Kassie just finished their very first season of volleyball.

Dana coached them in Shenandoah's intramural league. While they are both athletic, volleyball was a completely new experience and it was fun watching them progress and improve during their season.

Serving is probably the toughest skill to learn in volleyball. Because these girls are young and not quite strong enough yet, they served from inside the court.

I was impressed that Kelsey took to the overhead serve right away and did pretty well getting it over the net. That girl has determination!

Kassie started out serving underhand,...

...but by the end of the season, she was serving overhead too. I'm so proud of her for working hard to be able to learn that skill over just a few weeks!

Vb-17

The girls worked a lot on passing and keeping the ball in play. Kassie and Kelsey are ready on the front row...

Their older brothers even helped out. Kaden did some refereeing...

...and Karter ran the scoreboard. As many of the boys' athletic events that their sisters have sat through, it's the least they can do!

There weren't a lot of long rallies and despite their best efforts, more often than not the ball didn't go where it was supposed to...

Vb-24

But they had lots of fun learning a new sport and getting better each week.

I love volleyball and I'm excited to see them develop as players in the years to come.

Great season, girls!
