Tracksters

Karter&kaden-3

Track season has begun and this year we've got two tracksters competing for Shenandoah Middle School.

Our oldest grandchildren...Karter is in 8th grade and Kaden is in 6th.

Karter is the best long-jumper for the Raiders...

You can see proud Papaw (he loves track!) and Dad Kristoffer watching along the fence right behind Karter's head.

In his first meet of the season, Karter placed second in the long jump...a great start!

Our little boy is growing into such a handsome young man!

Kaden's field event is the shot put.

I'm so proud he's following in my footsteps...I was a shot putter in high school. Yes I was! In fact, I held the school record in shot put for 5 years, until my younger sister broke my record. (Never mind that our girls' track team was the very first one at Hagerstown...so there was no school "record" at all until I started throwing).

Kadentrack-2

I'm pretty sure Kaden's first throw as a 6th-grader could have broken my feeble school record...

Looking good, Kado! (I wish those kids would have moved out of my photos...)

Kadentrack-4

Our friend Carl is one of his coaches, giving him some form tips. Kaden would do well to listen to him...Carl knows his stuff. His daughter was the state shot put champ and is now on the track team at University of Miami in Florida.

Next up...hurdles. Hurdles make me cringe but Karter loves them!

And he is good at them! This is just his first meet...he got second place!

Kartertrack-34

Karter's main running event is the 400m. He's in the inside lane...

Rounding turn 4 and heading for the finish line...

Kartertrack-34

Karter made up some ground, but couldn't quite catch the two runners in front of him, finishing 3rd but besting his 400m time from last year.

Good race on a cold, windy day...

In the meet finale, both brothers ran in the 4x400m relay, on two different teams. Karter is the anchorman for the 8th-grade team (inside lane) and Kaden is the third runner for the younger team.

Run Kaden...RUN!

Kadentrack-21

All his winter weight-lifting is paying off...those are some strong, muscular legs developing!

Baton hand-off...

Kadentrack-33

Kaden has always done this unusual hand thing, spreading his fingers...it even shows up on the track!

Kartertrack-47

Karter's turn to bring the Raiders' relay home...

He gave it all he had, but not quite enough to win it. Maybe next time...

Going to be a fun spring season cheering on our favorite two...

...tracksters.
