When Mommy's Away

Finally Football

I do believe my grandson Karter is the smartest, best-looking, and just all around nicest boy on the Shenandoah 8th grade football team.

Karter is now 13, transitioning from a cute little boy into a very handsome young man.

He loves sports, and all summer long has looked forward to football season.

Back in mid-August, the schedule began with a jamboree on a very hot day.

We didn't care (well, most of the time...). We were pumped for football season and rooting on our #80.

I'm not very savvy on football positions, but Karter tells me that he plays wing on offense and cornerback on defense.

A few times each game, he gets to carry the ball or receive a pass.

It was a good warm-up day as the Raiders geared up for the 2021 season.

And then Covid resurged. Again. The school buildings closed down and went to virtual learning (ugh) and the 8th grade football season was put on hold for 3 weeks. (I won't mention that the varsity football team continued to practice and play as always because that topic might get me a little riled up...)

Finally, 3 weeks after it should have begun, the season officially opened.

Sorry-not-sorry...

Sometimes the other team's players are just too tall, too sure-handed, and too quick...

Go for his legs!!! Karter has heard that phrase a few hundred times from his Papaw over his 13 years...

A tricky little reverse play (I think that's what it's called?...)...

Going out for a pass...

Kartrfblapel-22

Oh yeah!

Kartrfblapel-22

Run, Karter, RUN! Where are his blockers?!

While they have yet to win a game, the 8th grade Raiders are improving each week, and that's what it's all about, right?

After a frustrating beginning to the school year and sports season, it's...

...finally football.
