Hot and Icy
A Fond Farewell to Yellowstone

Birds of Yellowstone

Baldeagle-4

While the mammals are Yellowstone's wildlife stars, there sure are some beautiful birds hanging around too.

Baldeagle-7

Hard to beat the majestic sight of a bald eagle!

Trumpeterswans-2

Or the gorgeous gracefulness of a swan.

Trumpeterswans-2

The Yellowstone area has lots of trumpeter swans this time of year. Some are permanent residents but many are passing through on migration routes.

I know they are common, but I never tire of lovely Canada geese. This group was trying to keep warm on another frigid Wyoming morning.

Waterfowl goldeneyes-2

We saw several groups of golden eyes...

Waterfowlmergansers-4

...as well as many common mergansers.

Waterfowlmergansers-4

They do not seem to be fazed by the frigid water.

Waterfowlamericandipper-4

This was my first time seeing an American dipper.

It is the only American songbird that dives for food. There's your tidbit of trivia for the day....

Cute little feller!

Of course, there were lots more that were unphotographical (is that a word???), for one reason or another.

Birds of Yellowstone.
