Magnolia Plantation and Gardens

Magnolia-1

Just a few miles south downstream from Middleton Place, another very old plantation sits along Charleston's Ashley River.

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is nearly 350 years old and boasts America's oldest romantic gardens.

While the plantation mansion (which we did not tour) is regal, the real jewels of Magnolia Plantation are the gorgeous acres and acres of gardens.

While the gardens were stunning, that will not be my foremost memory of Magnolia Plantation.

Kim I got away from the other people to stroll the far side of Magnolia when suddenly I began getting bowel cramps. You know, the "3-strikes-you're-out" kinda cramps. We were acres away from the restrooms at the front entrance and I knew I would never make it back in time. My only two choices were to either find a place to go or mess myself royally. So I dug a Kleenex out of my purse and Kim kept watch while I tried to avoid lurking alligators and found a big old live oak tree to fertilize.

Yes I did.  It wasn't pretty.  But oh-so-necessary.

I had barely finished leaving my mark on Magnolia when the same feeling struck Kim.  It was my turn to keep watch.  Apparently our delicious lunch from Middleton Place didn't set well for either of us.

So there you have it...our Magnolia Plantation story.  Just keeping it real for you...

Feeling much better, we resumed our tour and climbed this tower for a view of the marsh beyond.

What a gorgeous setting for a photo shoot! I'd be in photography heaven if I had a place like this close by...

Included in our hefty admission price was a walk through the swamp garden.
