Celebrating 62

Breakfast at Forest Ridge

Wednesday, May 22, was my 62nd birthday.

I woke up in Mama's new apartment, having stayed overnight with her as she adjusts to her new life.  We had plans to eat a light cereal breakfast in her apartment, but when we found out that Wednesday is Jack's Donuts day in the Forest Ridge dining room...well, we changed our minds.

So I spent the first few hours of my birthday with my precious Mama who gave me life.  She always says my birthday is HER birthday too...the day she gave me birth!  A woman after my own heart...Mama is always looking for an excuse to celebrate!

About halfway through our donuts, Mama got up from the table and began working the room, stopping by other tables to chat with her neighbor residents.  Now Mama is a social butterfly, but I thought that was a bit odd even for her.  It wasn't long before Mama was leading the whole room singing "Happy Birthday" to me!  Love her...and what a great way to start my day!

After breakfast, I drove home and got ready for my birthday lunch with my coffee friends.  It has become our tradition to do lunch somewhere different together, something special.  Another friend had mentioned a charming place called Mercantile 37 with a cafe attached, about 40 minutes away.  So I chose that for my birthday lunch adventure.

On the way there, God blessed me with the sighting of a BALD EAGLE flying low across a field as we drove by.  Wow!  Just WOW!!!  It disappeared before we had a chance to stop the vehicle for a photo, but Peggy and I both saw it clearly so I wasn't dreaming.  Such a thrill!

Before lunch, we browsed through this unique shop...

Lots of lovely items...if I were building another cabin I'd go nuts in there.  Of all things this caught my eye, but while I do collect decoys it's a little too varnish-y for my style, so I controlled myself.

...but the best part was spending time with my dear friends!

I came home to a lovely vase of flowers and a 3-lb. bag of M&Ms from my man.  He knows the way to my heart!  I had already bought my birthday present a few weeks ago...a new Nikon zoom lens for photographing birds on our Brazil trip this fall.

Then at our church meeting that evening, my pastor/bossman CJ presented me with a container of Good's Ice Cream and a couple of chocolate waffle cones.  Yes!  He (or his wife Leann) knows me well...

All in all, a wonderful day...

...celebrating 62.
