Lagoon Lunch
10/25/2018
We enjoyed one last unique experience before we reluctantly left Duma Tau camp and moved on to our final adventures in Botswana.
A lunch cruise on the Osprey Lagoon.
Specialty Guide Brooks became Captain Brooks for the afternoon.
The food was good and served elegantly....
...but the best part were our lunching companions.
A couple of elephants enjoying their own lunch of waterlily roots from the lagoon.
Who knew that elephants are actually very good swimmers?
Most areas of the lagoon are fairly shallow (at least for an elephant!) and the ellies would rake their tusks through the water to collect the lilies...
....swish them through the water a couple of times to rinse them off,...
...and then eat them.
Who knew waterlilies were elephant lunch delicacies?
I've been on many dinner cruises, but I must say this is the most unique entertainment I've ever enjoyed.
A Jesus bird...walking on water (lilies) alongside our boat....
Every night a gazillion of these little Angolan reed frogs serenaded us to sleep. They are also known as "bell" frogs as they sound like a massive bell choir. I loved listening to them just outside our tent.
One of the most adventurous meals of my life...
Lagoon lunch.
