Walking in the Rain
09/28/2018
Takes more than a few raindrops deluge to deter these wonderful folks who are passionate about saving the lives of unborn babies.
Despite the miserable rainy morning, the Henry County Pregnancy Care Center's Walk for Life was a huge success!
My son Kamaron brought his two children Krew (4 1/2) and Juni (3) to join me and others in supporting the work of the Center.
Children certainly don't mind the rain. At all.
In fact, I think they prefer it.
And donuts were involved. And coffee.
Oh yeah! Juni with her little friend from church...
The Walk is the major fundraiser for this organization, of which I've been a part in some way for about 25 years.
Pastor Brian Mackie, who serves as Board President along with being a full-time pastor at two small churches (including my home church and where Mama still goes, White Branch Church of the Brethren) was the emcee.
There were around 200 walkers, I think, and about $20,000 was raised for the cause.
Very good for a very rainy day...
Krew and Juni and their friends were among the youngest walkers.
My sweet friend Jean Ann with some of her family...
While everyone was enjoying their donuts and coffee, Brian announced awards.
This coveted traveling trophy goes to the church with the most walkers.
Yep, I don't know their exact count but I think they definitely win!
Other winners, for bringing in the most donations:
My friend Kay (with Brian and the Center's Director and my dear friend Janet)....
Another friend Jennifer (yes, God has blessed me with lots of friends!), with her family.
But the biggest winners of all were the needy families and those facing crisis pregnancies in our community!
The morning's entertainment...collecting acorns in the rain...
A wonderful morning with my peeps for a great cause...
...walking in the rain.
