Crystal Coast Christmas Flotilla
Doubly Bright & Merry

All is Calm

Beach-10

I love the beach, any day, any time of year.

Beach-27

But there is something very special about spending seaside time in the off-season.

Beach-73

Normally we stay in a beach house when we come down with our big family in July.  But this trip, Kim and I opted for the Hilton DoubleTree. On a summer day, this stretch of beach would be umbrella-to-umbrella, towel-to-towel with people...hundreds of them.

Beach-16

But in December, we had the whole place to ourselves.

Just like we like it.

Beach-2

Very, very few people.  We only had to share the beach with the birds.

A little beach yoga, sandpiper style...

Beach-58

Fighting over a crab breakfast...

Beach-74

The ocean was so calm and almost glassy...

Beach-74

...making dolphins easy to spot.  We watched them lazily fish their way across the ocean in front of us...

Beach-28

...into the sunset.

Beach-74

Speaking of sunsets...there is no more beautiful place on earth than the ocean at sunset.

Beach-74

We enjoyed long strolls along the beach, watching the pelicans dance their synchronized flight over the water...

The morning we left, the sun had to work extra hard to break through the clouds. I love it when the light radiates out like that...

Beach-49

Someday Jesus will return to earth, and I like to think He will slide down those sun rays like a gigantic monster slide, white robes billowing out, hair flying behind Him, and a big "Whoopee!" resounding across the world.  A triumphant return, for sure!

Beach-53

This was where we worshiped on Sunday morning.  I've never seen a more glorious sanctuary!

Beach-36

And God sent us a sighting to remember...WHALES!!!

Beach-45

In all the 60 years I've been coming to this area, I've never once seen a whale.  But last week we saw two!!!

Google tells me they were probably humpback or right whales migrating, and since right whales don't have that fin at the end of their back, we're pretty sure they were humpbacks.

Beach-41

They were quite a distance from shore, but wow.  Just WOW.

Beach-76

A perfect getaway to relax and restore our minds and souls...

Beach-29

...at the beach in December, all is calm.

Funny you talked about the rays like that. When I was a little kid, I always thought those rays coming down were when someone dead was ascending into heaven to be with God.

Not exactly sure what it will be like - but His return will be glorious!

Wow ---so beautiful! We LOVE the beach as well. You have got very lucky this year with catching your whales while vacationing . God has provided well for your relaxation sites this year :)
