What a dreary, ugly, gray January it has been here in central Indiana!

Our sweet Kaden turns 7 on Wednesday.  How can that be possible?!

Our county is embroiled in a controversy, probably the biggest controversy of this generation, one that is threatening to change our bucolic landscape forever (or at least for the rest of my lifetime) and rip apart friendships along the way.

My great-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Whitley Britt.  

Mama's daddy's mama.

Born 1893, died 1977.

It's been the dreariest of Januarys...day after day after day of gloomy gray skies and rain, mist, or fog. Or all three. Ugh.

This photo sits on my desk, those dancing blue eyes looking at me every day just like they did for 58 years of my life.

Someday their big brothers will have to spend hours on the sidelines watching THEM play sports.

My first-grade grandson Kaden (gotta love that toothless smile!) lives for the game of basketball.

When Kim's name came up on my ringing cell phone screen, I wondered what was wrong. 

It seems surreal that just one year ago today was my rectal cancer surgery.
