Memorial Day weekend is the traditional start to summer (even though Kaden insists it's still technically "spring" until June 20!...there's one in every family....). Here's what we were up to over the weekend...
I hung out with Mama Saturday morning, and she was hanging out with her great-great-nephew, little cutie-pie Jamie!
He's 3 1/2 years old...the same age of my twin granddaughters. So sweet...looks kinda like Opie Taylor!
Every child that comes to Mama's is an excuse for an ice cream cone...for both of them!
Jamie took a shine to Aunt Lois right from the start, and she loves him too!
He raced her to the top of the hill...
Three-year-old legs beat 80-year-old legs most of the time!
Saturday evening we went to our church picnic.
Several families (including 2 of our kids') camped out at the church...
...but Kim and I, not being camper-types, showed up for the picnic.
A brief but heavy downpour chased us all under the shelter...
...eventually even getting the best of Pastor CJ and Jackie, who tried to be hard-core but finally caved when the deluge began.
The children were a wet, muddy mess...but having a blast!
Kelsey (3 1/2)...
...and her twin sister Kassie.
Sunday morning we worshiped at Springport Christian Church, where our son Kamaron was the guest speaker. We had lunch with Kamaron, Krew, and Juni.
Then Sunday afternoon, Kim and I picked our first batch of fresh strawberries from our patch and had them for supper.
This is one of the BEST meals ever, and I look forward to it every year. Especially the first picking...it doesn't get any better than strawberries and biscuits topped with whipped cream!
Up bright and on the road early to Kenny's house for the annual Memorial Day chicken-killing.
Yep, the Grays DO know how to celebrate a holiday!
The scalder that we've used for years and years and years decided to conk out on us, so we got off to a slow start...
But Kim Gray will not be deterred, so he moved on to Plan B and got 'er done!
That is one fine bird...just 8 weeks after we got them as day-old chicks...
Yep...that's my man!
...and his dagger of choice. Ugh! I'm washing those clothes right now, despite the temptation to just toss out those bloody duds every year.
But pretty happy to have 68 freshly-butchered chickens in our freezers this morning! And that task behind me for another year...
A great weekend spent with family and friends!
