My 3-year-old granddaughter Kelsey had surgery yesterday.

Minor surgery, yes...but it doesn't feel "minor" when it's your baby!

Bright and very early yesterday morning, we met up at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.  Since birth, Kelsey has had a herniated belly button that her pediatrician had hoped would correct itself as she grew.  While it has improved a lot, the hernia was still there and needed surgical intervention.

She got all dressed in her hospital duds, complete with hospital socks "just like Gramaw had."  (Hers are much cuter...mine didn't have smiley faces on them!)

She's been excited for this day for a long time when, as she puts it, "the doctor will make my belly button little like [her twin sister] Kassie's."  It was a simple procedure, but it did involve putting her to sleep and she is, after all, only 3 years old and doesn't understand what all is happening to her.

The thing about a children's hospital is that they make everything kid-friendly...and Kelsey got to drive a Barbie car down to the operating room, as the nurse pushed the bed behind her!

I think Kelsey is actually more mechanically-minded than her Daddy and definitely more than her Papaw...she actually checked under the hood to be sure everything was okay before driving her car.

The pink fuzzy dinosaur in the seat was a gift from her proclaimed "best friend" (one of them, at least) Pastor CJ, who came to see her and pray with her before the surgery.

She never once cried until she came back to her room after the 1-hour procedure, and then it was more of a whine for her Mommy.  As soon as Mommy picked her up, she was fast asleep again.

According to her Mommy, Kelsey slept most of the afternoon away.  But she was happy to see a nice surprise from some church friends, Dave and Rita.  I'm thinking Gramaw may need to come visit and help her eat some of those goodies!

All is well and we're all so glad it's over.  So proud of our brave little trooper Kelsey!

She was a star patient!
