Into Africa

Mission-1

Saturday, a group of 11 short-term missionaries from our church embarked on a journey halfway across the world.

To share the love of God in Kenya.

Kim and I organized the trip and planned to go, but my cancer battle changed all those plans.  So my daughter Emily (in purple) and her husband Zach (in red, beside her) agreed to take the reins and head up this trip.  Emily has been to Kenya before and she's a high school teacher with plenty of bossing leadership skills, so they were the perfect solution and God's choice to lead our team this time.

Mission-2

It was bittersweet bidding them (and their 22 pieces of luggage!) farewell at the airport.  I SO WISH we were going with them!!!  But God had other plans and the ones who were supposed to go are the ones in this photo.

I may or may not have shed a jealous tear or two on the way home...

Nairobi

After 18 hours in the air and 24 hours after they left, the team arrived safely (but very travel weary!) in Nairobi yesterday afternoon.  Our missionary friend Dave, who is hosting them for two weeks, snapped this shot of several of them just outside the Nairobi airport where he was waiting for them.

I was thankful to see Emily smiling, despite what I heard was a bit of an argument with a Kenyan immigration agent trying to clear customs.  The LAST thing she needed after the long trip was a hassle in customs, but it all got worked out and all 11 people and 22 pieces of luggage made it through.

I'm so excited for their next two weeks!!!  God has some mighty things in store for them!

I'm so very proud of each one on the team, stepping out of their American comfort zones and...

...into Africa.

Grand daughter Elissha would have loved to have gone, too.
She spent a weekend with Dave and Jen before coming back in Nov.
Did they come home for his sister's funeral?
Mariellen was in our daughter Jill's class of 1976.
So thankful to read just now that you are cancer-free!
Wonderful news!
