Frozen Roses

Mama-6

Two weeks ago, on February 10, was Mama's birthday.

Two weeks ago, on February 10, the outside high temperature here in central Indiana was 13 degrees with a wind chill that made it feel well below zero.

My brother, who lives in Texas, had ordered Mama some flowers through ProFlowers.com.  They were supposed to arrive on February 9, and when they didn't Mark was livid and called them up.  ProFlowers insisted that yes, they had indeed been delivered and left "by the back door."

We looked at all the doors.  No flowers.  For starters, WHO in their right mind would leave flowers outside in such bitter temperatures?

Apparently, ProFlowers would...

...because after we got back from a short birthday lunch in town, right by the back step (they weren't there when we left...we'd have stepped on them if they had been!) was a box from ProFlowers.  The temperature may have been up to 10 degrees by then...  We still don't have a clue how the delivery got so screwed up, but that's beside the point.

The point being...the roses were beautiful...and FROZEN SOLID!!!

I mean...SERIOUSLY???!!!  The wet floral foam that they were in was a solid block of ice!

As soon as the warm air inside hit them, they began to droop and the brittle leaves began falling.

Mama got to enjoy them maybe 15 minutes before they were completely ruined.

I think Mark got his money back, but that didn't completely fix the situation.  He felt terrible, even though it wasn't his fault.

I tell you all this to say it's MUCH BETTER to order flowers from a local flower shop than some big online place, especially in the dead of winter (or the intense heat of summer too, for that matter...).  Anyone with half a brain knows you can't leave flowers out in extreme weather like that.

No one wants...

....frozen roses.
