Celestial Thoughts
07/01/2015
Being the nerd that I am, when I read that last night there would be an unusual convergence of Jupiter and Venus, I braved the mosquitoes to get a glimpse of the phenomenon and take a few photos.
But before I even made it past the pines to view the western sky, I saw the big, beautiful nearly-full moon shining down on me.
WOW!
It was actually more impressive than the close alignment of Jupiter and Venus.
Apparently the brighter planet (the one at the bottom) is Jupiter, and Venus, although it is much closer to Earth than Jupiter, appears less bright because it is so much smaller than Jupiter.
The whole standing-under-the-night-sky experience (minus the mosquitoes nibbling on my ankles) brought to mind a song I hadn't thought of in years and years...a song from my teenage days...
"When the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Venus Mars, then peace will guide the planet, and love will steer the stars...."
Sing along with me...
"This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius, the Age of Aquarius....Aquarius! Aquarius! Harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust abounding, no more falsehoods or derisions, golden living dreams of visions, mystic crystal revelations, and the mind's true liberation...Aquarius! Aquarius!"
Yep, a real hippie song by The Fifth Dimension in 1969, made famous in the musical "Hair."
Dad hated that song and anything like it. Which made me like it even more.
But I knew then, as I know even more strongly now, that there is absolutely no power in the moon or the stars, but only in their Creator.
And as I stared into last night's darkness, lit only by those lights God placed up there, I was humbled that the Creator of the entire universe knew I was standing right there at that very time and marveling that He cares for little old me.
Although I do wish He'd have called his mosquitoes off (I'm very certain God had a good reason to create mosquitoes, I just haven't yet figured out what that reason was...)....
Just a few of my last night's...
...celestial thoughts.
Beautiful pictures!
