Golden Birthday


I learned something new.  Today, August 30, is Emily's "golden birthday."

I mean, I KNOW today is Emily's birthday since I clearly remember giving birth to her 30 years ago today.  But I'd never heard the term "golden birthday"...which apparently is when your age is the same as the date you were born.  Emily is 30 on the 30th...that makes it her "golden birthday."

I'm probably the only person who didn't already know this...but now I do!

This, by the way, is one of the cutest photo-bombs ever!

Little Town Big Doin's


The day before Community Days, the skies opened and 6" of much-needed rain fell.  Add in the 90+ degrees and it was pretty much a muddy sauna for the whole weekend.

But the show must go the car show, traditionally held in the now-squishy grassy lot by the community building, was held instead in our church parking lot.  The cars were just starting to pull in as the race began.

Triple Challenge

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is quite the Facebook phenomenon.  Our family was touched very personally and tragically when my mother-in-law Peggy was diagnosed with ALS in 2005 and passed away after suffering terribly in 2007.  So when my niece Tiffany challenged us all to either be drenched in ice water or donate $100 to the ALS Association, Kim and I opted to stay dry and donated $100.
