Polar Express

Wind-6

I've always wondered what it would be like to live in Alaska.

Wait...as I'm typing this, the temperature in Anchorage is 32 with the forecast calling for 30s all week long.

My thermometer says 3 degrees with windchills well below zero here in central Indiana, with the forecast calling for dropping temperatures all day until we reach the negative teens tonight.

Plus wind.  Always the WIND!

Something is wrong with this picture.

Wind-2

What we DO having going for us is sunshine!  Praise God for the sunshine, or this winter would be unbearable.

Alaska has very few hours of daylight in the winter.  So while they are warmer (?) than us, at least we see the sun.  Does that make you feel better?....

Wind-5

It's hard to photograph the effects of the wind, but you sure can feel it and hear it howling!  Saturday afternoon it was wicked, blowing snow across the fields like sand across a windy tropical beach.

Except 70 degrees colder.

And without palm trees.

Wind-3

The grass is poking through in areas of our yard, while there are 4+- feet tall snowdrifts in others.

I know...all my Hoosier friends and family are feeling the same pain, but I don't want to keep this glorious weather all to ourselves...gotta share with my friends and family in other parts of the globe.

I've never been in a hurricane, but I can only imagine it sounds much like what I heard outside the cabin all night long.  Except 70 degrees warmer...

And while I generally love winter...the beautiful peaceful snow and the lazy cozy days it brings...even I'm beginning to tire of the brutal cold and the unceasing howling winds barreling straight toward us from the North Pole, yet another unforgiving blast of arctic air.  Stop this train, we're SO ready to get off...

...the polar express.
