The Sweetest Gift

Words cannot even begin to express how much I love this little boy!

Karter is the sweetest child, and melts my heart every time I see him.  But yesterday after he gave me one of the sweetest gifts I've ever received.

After school the phone rang and his precious little voice was on the other end.

"Gramaw, I've got something I want to bring to you."

Of course...come on over!  And I waited at the door and watched him run through the orchard, his 5-year-old fist clutched tight.

With the sweetest smile on his darling face (yes...I adore this child!), he opened his fist and handed his treasure to me.

A tiny, polished seashell.

Karter knows I love seashells and always come home from the beach with new ones, and he also knows my favorite ones are the curlicues (a very scientific seashell term...).

"Gramaw, do you have any seashells from the Bahamas?"

"No, I don't."

"Well, Mrs. Moore [his kindergarten teacher] went to the Bahamas and brought back seashells for us and I picked this one out for you."

Need I tell you again why this child melts my heart so???

I offered to let him keep it but he insisted, no, it was for me because he knows how I love curlicue seashells.  And to think he was thinking of his grandma as he sorted to pick out just the perfect shell that he knew I would like.

My sweet, sweet Karter.

Of all the presents I've received in my life, this humble little seashell ranks very near (if not AT) the top as...

...the sweetest gift.
