TALE OF TWO WEDDINGS

How do you choose between attending the wedding of a close family cousin and the wedding of long-time family friends?

We couldn't choose...so Kim and I attended both one Saturday afternoon...the wedding ceremony of one and the reception of the other.

We drove an hour and a half away to watch Kim's cousin Scott give away his beautiful daughter Ciara.  Ciara was absolutely gorgeous, as always!

Her equally-beautiful, teary-eyed sister April was the maid of honor.

Ciara is about 6 feet tall and her husband is even taller, and the minister who performed the ceremony was a good foot shorter than either of them!

So fun to see young couples so happy and totally in love!

We greeted them outside the church, chatted with family members for a few minutes, then headed toward home to catch the second wedding's reception.

(As it turned out, I'm not sorry I missed Ciara's reception.  These two families are die-hard Purdue people, and we found out later that the reception was a Purdue theme, with the mascot Purdue Pete even making an appearance.  I'm not sure I could have gracefully handled all that black and gold malarkey...)

We arrived at the reception hall and made it through the hors d'oeuvres line just in time for the arrival of the bridal party.

The bride Mikka is the daughter of our close friends from church, Rhonda and Rich...

...and our other close friends and neighbors, Terri and Ken, are the parents of the groom, Ryan.

Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Chapman!

Mikka was radiant and elegant in her simple lace gown.  She's not much for a lot of frou-frou.

Father-of-the-bride Rich shared his thoughts on this special day.

Best man Chris, also a neighbor and good friend of my boys, led a toast to the couple.

Feathers from our very own peacocks were part of the decorations.  This was the candy table, where guests put together a custom mix of candies to munch on.

Brenda's daughter-in-law Briana did the flower arrangements.

Each table had its own cake, and this one was for the couple.

It was a great venue for such a large reception.  Very nice!

But the very best part is seeing the smiles on the faces of two terrific young people that God has brought together!

And that, my friends, is the tale of two weddings.
