LITTLE DIVAS

All summer long I've been teaching the 5 & 6-year-old Sunday School class.  While there are 10 children who you might call "regulars" during the school year, the summer is a different story and I seldom had more than 4 or 5 any given week.

But these 4 were very faithful about coming, and they made me smile every week!

When we learned about Queen Esther a couple of Sundays ago, they all made crowns....

...and instantly transformed into little divas!

Crazy, silly little divas...

Goofy, ornery little divas...

But OH-SO-VERY-CUTE little divas!

Wonder what exciting things God has in store for these young princesses of His Kingdom?!

THE PHOTO THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN

Sunday afternoon I was sitting on the couch doing a crossword puzzle when Kim yelled into the kitchen door..."Terry!  Get your camera!!  Come out here...Quick!!!"

I jumped up and headed for my camera, to get ready to go outside, and then...

"TERRY!!!  QUICK!!!  RIGHT NOW!!!  THE BLIMP IS GOING OVER OUR HOUSE!!!!!!"

I ran through the garage and stood right outside the door and this is what I saw!

(If you look very closely, you can see the edge of the garage roof in the very tip-top right corner of the photo.)

It was moving very fast and went right over my head and our house before I had much of a chance to photograph it.

Yes, Mama, it did!  Mama has a long-standing distrust of blimps... (...click here if you haven't heard her blimp story and want to know the "scary" details...)

I didn't have the right lens on my camera and I was all discombobulated (I'll tell you why in a minute!), and I barely had time to click a few more photos...

...which turned out more like silhouettes because it was heading straight west into the afternoon sun...

...and as suddenly as it appeared, the blimp was gone.

I did get this photo (yes, it was THAT CLOSE!), but the real photo of the day is the one that WASN'T captured, but should have been.  Maybe.

Not that I'd post it if it HAD been taken...

You see, I was doing all this photography standing in my driveway and yard without my pants on!

Just a t-shirt (thank goodness it was a long one!) and underwear...

You may want to stop reading right here, because what follows may classify as TMI... "too much information"...

But I know you won't, because who doesn't want to read TMI????!!!

Here goes...

I have these "episodes" where I get EXTREMELY hot (it may have something to do with my age/hormones...) and I was in the middle of one of those spells so I had taken off my pants to cool off while I was relaxing in the great room.

When Kim burst into the house yelling for me to grab my camera, I did...then realized I didn't have my pants on!  So I ran back into the great room and snatched up my britches off the couch and was trying to figure out the back of the pants from the front and Kim hollered again to hurry up, so I ran out the door clutching the pants in my hands.

I realized immediately that the blimp was RIGHT THERE and I had no time to fiddle around with my pants, so I dropped them and just started taking pictures.

I wonder... How well do you think those blimp pilots can see people on the ground?  Do you think they realized that a crazy woman was standing in her underwear below them snapping away?!

Oh, dear...

I kept telling myself that looking down from above, they would only see my head and not realize my legs were completely bare.  And then, as they moved off I thought they probably WOULD be able to see that I was pantless (NOT panty-less...even I wouldn't run outside panty-less!!!), so I stood in a bush or hid behind a tree trunk for the rest of the photos.

All the while, Kim is just shaking his head in wonderment at this crazy wife of his...

I'm sure you can visualize the ridiculousness of the whole scene by now.

And you will surely agree with me that the REAL PHOTO of the day was the one that was never taken... of me standing outside in my underwear taking photos!

The photo that should have been... (but I'm SO GLAD it wasn't!)...

"CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES"

What a treat!!!

Talk about LAUGHING!!!  If laughter is good for the body and soul, I should be in good shape for awhile!

Saturday afternoon, Mama and I joined my close friend Peggy and her mother-in-law Maxine for a great time at Beef and Boards Dinner Theater in Indianapolis to see Church Basement Ladies.

We were so thankful that Peggy and Maxine were gracious enough to invite us to go!

I hadn't been to Beef and Boards since I was in high school...a few years ago.  After we were seated, we helped ourselves to the buffet meal at the front of the auditorium.

Being the food connoisseur that I am (?), I have to throw in that the food was so-so...a decent salad bar, hard rolls, and some basic hot foods.  No dessert was included (what?!).  If you wanted dessert, you had to order and pay for it separately and then it was served during intermission.  The dessert options looked pretty tasty, but our willpower kicked in and we declined.

Mama and me...

This is what happens when you ask a total stranger who doesn't know diddly-squat about photography to take your picture.  Um...have you ever thought of CENTERING your subject?!  Anyway, you get the idea...

After the meal, the buffet line was whisked away and the stage came out to take its place.

Unfortunately, they didn't allow photography during the show, so I borrowed a couple of
pictures off the internet of the cast and some of their shenanigans.

The show is set in a small Minnesota Lutheran church basement during the 1960s.  As in many small churches, the ladies who work tirelessly fixing meals and such for church functions are the backbone of this church, and these 4 women from 4 different generations keep the church running while they deal with everyday problems in their own funny ways.

Their silly antics kept us laughing as I think we all have known church ladies much like the ones in the musical.

Great company, great conversation, so-so food, but lots of giggles and laughter for sure...a wonderful Saturday out with the girls!

CHURUBUSCO BARN

For the second straight year (does two in a row make it a tradition???), Kim and I spent Labor Day driving around in search of photogenic red barns.

All my adult life, I've had a special love for old red barns.  Last fall when I redecorated one of the kids' bedroom into a guest room, I named it the Barn Room and since then I've been taking photos of red barns to decorate it.

Not just any red barns.  Oh, no...I've got my requirements...

They must be old and wooden.  The more isolated, the better.

Peeling paint and a worn-out look are bonuses!

So Kim, as he travels through Indiana for business meetings, is always on the lookout for great red barns for me to photograph.

Bless that man!  I just love him!!!

So after we finished extracting our honey on Monday morning, he suggested we head to northern Indiana to see a beautiful barn he found for me near Churubusco.

Wow!  This is a great one!

It was so huge and so close to the road that even with my wide-angle lens, I had a hard time taking a picture of the whole thing.

There's actually another red barn next to it, but much too new-looking with its shiny metal siding.  Very pretty...but not what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for character that only comes through the test of time.

Don't you just love the painted arches on the barn doors?

The details on the barn are just charming...

It's not every day that you see a sailboat weathervane here in Indiana corn country!

Complete with a nice old silo...

Love, love, love this old red barn!!!

Now if I can just get Kim to bring me up here again during the winter when the trees are bare and snow is on the ground... now THAT would be a gorgeous winter photo!

CHERUB CHILD

Precious little Paige is part of our church family.

I've known her since the day she was born (three years ago already!) and watched her in the church nursery many times, but last week her mommy and daddy let her stay at my house for a few hours.

Such a little angel!!!  Paige reminds me of those darling little cherubs you see pictures of...all she's missing is her angel wings!

Not only is she cherubic in looks, she is also a little angel in the way she acts.

So sweet and easy to get along with!  Her mommy and daddy are surely doing something right!

We had a lot of fun together the day she stayed with me, but she did not cooperate
when I wanted to take her photo.

I had to catch her unawares to snap these few, but oh, what a dollbaby she is!

Thanks, Jessica and Kyle, for sharing your sweet little cherub child with me!!!
