Keeping the Home Pretend-Fires Burning

Daniel-146

While Mommy and Daddy were staying at the hospital with their new baby brother Daniel, 4-year-old Abram and 2-year-old Lucy were hanging out with Gramaw.

They got moved just in the nick of time...only 5 weeks before Daniel arrived...so it was my first time staying overnight in their brand-spanking-new home.

It did not come as a surprise that volcanoes and fire piles moved with them.  Anyone who knows Abram and Lucy knows about their darling obsession with all things fire-related.

This photo pretty much sums up Abram right now...

And let me just right now make a public apology to Kyler and Kara for that volcano book I gave Abram, which seemed like a good idea at the time.  It has become a bedtime favorite of both him and Lucy but definitely not a fun one for the reader.  Through no fault or desire of her own, Kara has become quite the volcanologist (I learned that term from that drasted book!).

Mommy and Daddy weren't having all the fun, birthing and cuddling Daniel in the hospital.  Gramaw, Abram, and Lucy were keeping plenty busy back at home.

Daily morning walks to the fountain, which always included throwing a few dirt clods into the pond.  My boy Abram's got quite a little arm on him...maybe he'll be a great baseball pitcher like his daddy!

Who needs grass???  Dirt piles are soooo much fun!

They loved to climb on them...

...and especially "The Rocky Mountains" on the other side of the street.

I quickly decided that was a Daddy-activity and not a Gramaw one...

One day they were digging for dinosaur bones (specifically T-Rex bones...) and one time they were building burn piles which would spontaneously combust when the sun shone on them for a long time.

I'm a firm believer that kids need dirt to grow up strong and healthy.  No worries with these two!

Spending some unstructured outdoor time with toddlers is good for the soul.  You remember what it's like to see the world with fresh eyes and a big imagination.

You really see the wonder in little flowers like you used to before life got complicated.

And a field of dandelions becomes a magical place again.

Daniel-128

If you're feeling stressed and tired of adulting, I highly recommend you go outside and blow on a dandelion today...

Daniel-138

These tiny crocs know how to have fun!

And don't even think she needs my help to put them on.  "No!  I do it!"

I couldn't have asked for a better weekend with more entertaining companions!
