Explorin' and Chillin'

The wildflowers were absolutely gorgeous in late April across the countryside where Maria lives near Gainesville, Florida.

I could not get enough of them!  Such wild beauty, all along the roadsides!

Just the week before we arrived, the community had suffered a stunning and terrible tragedy, as two police officers were gunned down in cold blood...

...as they sat eating in this local restaurant.

The community was still reeling from the craziness of that day, and blue ribbons were everywhere in support of the officers' families.

When will this senseless violence and madness end?!  Lord Jesus, come!!!

But life goes on for the rest of us...

We visited the quaint town of Micanopy...

Such gorgeous big live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss...so beautiful!

The Micanopy mansion....

A morning of gadding about sure tuckers us girls out!

We stopped at a nearby park to see the famous Devil's Millhopper sinkhole.

Maria had been there before, and I was excited to check out this natural phenomenon myself.

But...it would have been wise to read the signs BEFORE we paid the park admission instead of AFTER!  The sinkhole area was closed for safety reasons, with walkways and stairs being repaired.  So we didn't even get a glimpse of what we paid $4 to see.

We were disappointed (although we did have a few laughs along the way!), so we needed the comfort of a Coldstone ice cream stop to salvage the morning.

Cedarkey-1

Since Maria rarely gets time alone with Mama, I gave them a few hours together and I spent the morning at Cedar Key, a charming beach community on the Gulf.

I had the beachside park all to myself.  Well, except for the pelicans...

...and the white ibises that hung out with me.

Oh, and a couple of pods of dolphins that were lazily swimming by...

Such a nice morning!

I could totally live in Cedar Key.  Except I'd miss my babies...

A short stroll for an ice cream cone made the morning complete!

(You may detect a common theme here...ice cream is a staple in our diets...)

A couple of wonderful days in Florida...

...explorin' and chillin'.
