Born Friday, May 4 at 4:05 pm, 6 lbs. 15 oz./20 inches of pure baby perfection!
Our son Kyler called me early Friday morning to tell me that Kara was in labor and set into motion our prearranged plan for me to drive down to their new home near Cincinnati to stay with their older two while they were in the hospital a couple of days.
Since it's a 1-hour+45-minute drive there and Kara has been known to have fairly quick deliveries, I threw on some clothes and a few more in a suitcase and hit the road by 6:30 am. When I arrived, the children were just finishing breakfast and after they got dressed, they took a walk through their new neighborhood...their last walk as a family of four.
Ready to go to the hospital...
Kara is the most relaxed and beautiful mother-in-labor! Nothing seems to rattle her.
Bye-bye hugs and explanations...
Sweet final pats to their baby in Mommy's tummy...
...and a kiss for luck, and they're on their way.
As soon as I received that ecstaticly joyful phone call, I loaded up 4-year-old Abram and 2-year-old Lucy for the 30-minute drive to the hospital to meet their new brother.
Even though they'd only been apart for a few hours, all of their lives had dramatically changed.
Mommy was pretty excited to see her "big" babies too!
Princess Kate (whose family mirrors Kara's and who just gave birth to her third child, a boy also, and looked fabulous just after giving birth...) has nothing on my daughter-in-law. Just an hour after giving birth and Kara looked gorgeous as always!
Big brother and sister were SO EXCITED to get to hold Daniel!
Sooooo sweet!!!! Daniel is a blessed little guy to have these two to teach him the ropes.
Although I told Abram please don't teach Daniel how to toot or burp out loud. (I have a sneaking suspicious he'll pick up those "skills" just fine on his own, as all Gray boys do...)
Giddy Daddy...makes my heart smile seeing my son loving his own babies so much. He's a great father!
Of course, I could hardly wait to get my hands on baby Daniel too!
This is Gramaw Heaven!
Kara's parents and our close friends Jeff and Peggy arrived just shortly afterward. Like me, they are very happy grandparents!
Look into those precious eyes and I don't see how anyone could ever believe babies are not a miraculous gift from Creator God!
Abram's inquiring mind never stops, and he had plenty of questions for his Mommy.
Lucy was all about holding Daniel (so CUTE the way she says his name!) and wallering snuggling Mommy.
First portrait of the new family of five!
Papaw Kim came the next day to go to the hospital with us and meet his new grandson.
He's already changed in less than a day!
Birthday cake from the hospital to celebrate Daniel's arrival. I think Abram ate 3 pieces!
God has blessed Kim and me with 9 beautiful grandchildren! Each one is just as special and exciting!
Abram kept a close inquisitive eye on the nurse as she checked Daniel.
It was the first time Abram heard Daniel cry...he wasn't quite sure about that....
Lucy-girl was writing her "list"...
Abram was our hospital elevator operator...he loved pushing the buttons.
Sunday morning they arrived home and Daniel checked out his new digs.
He looks so tiny in that crib....
I'm loving that little swirl of hair right above the middle of his forehead! Such a doll baby!!!
What a difference a couple of days makes...
And then there were five.
