When the House girls (pictured here, the oldest two House girls...my sister Barb and me) make up their minds to do something, it happens.
We learned that, among many other valuable life lessons that have shaped who we are, from our Mama (pictured here with the youngest House girl, Maria).
And yes, they are eating cookies...extra-delicious ginger snaps made by our airbnb hostess. Cookies (well, sweets in general) were a diet mainstay during our week together...
The four of us decided it was the perfect time to kill two birds with one stone...spend some time together and take Mama to see her/our Britt people in North Carolina.
First stop...the rendezvous! This delightful little "English Garden Cottage" (so dubbed on the airbnb website) in Knoxville, Tennessee was the perfect place to chillax. Barb and Mama and I drove I-75 south from Indiana and Maria drove I-75 north from Florida, meeting roughly halfway for a couple of nights of togetherness.
Isn't it charming???
Maria and Mama were bedfellows during our getaway...
...and Barb and I shared this room.
We might have drunk a cup pot of coffee (or two or three...) each day. Lots of sister-Mama time...just what we all needed!
Mama has finished 4 bed runners, all made from Dad's old shirts (which she had also sewn herself). Maria's was personally delivered...
...along with the tablecloth and matching curtains Mama made Maria for her Florida home. In true Mama fashion, the tablecloth had to be "tried on," even if Maria's table isn't as big as this one.
Such a beautiful bush! The American beautyberry...Indiana is too cold for it, otherwise I'd get Kim to plant me some everywhere!
Since both of my sisters are physical therapists, no get-together is complete without a PT session.
Working on posture...it's hard to grow old gracefully...
Early morning crochet session...Barb and Mama have always got a project going. Barb was gifted with patience for that sort of thing that I definitely don't have!
I'd rather take photos!
Our mountain namesake was nearby, so we just had to check it out!
We did a little hiking up the mountain trails...
We never quite made it to the top...we were getting hungry and tired, so we turned around before the summit and called it close enough.
My favorite House hikers!
We stopped by a nature/recreation center called Ijams for a short walk-around...
...and picnic lunch.
I'm sure it surprises you that we passed on the zipline, kayaking, hard-core hiking.
We had thoughts of going up into the Sunsphere, ....
...but Kay's won out.
Afternoon snack and naps were calling our names.
And we listened!
On the way back to our cottage, Maria stopped at Family Dollar to pick up a couple of things and she threw 4 of these in her cart.
Not sure if they rejuvenated our complexions, but they sure did rejuvenate our spirits!
It's been a VERY LONG TIME since I've laughed that hard!!!
If laughter is good for the soul, our souls are in great shape!
Ready for Halloween!
The adventure was just beginning!
Memory-making ahead (tomorrow's post!), all beginning with the...
...House girls' rendezvous.
