For 5-year-old Kelsey and Kassie, it was their basketball debut.
They are playing in the Pre-K league...and were a head taller than any of the others (all boys!) on their team.
Gotta love the Little Tikes goals....
They both did great!
Basket for Kassie!
Honestly, it must have been quite frustrating for them as they seemed to be the only players who had any understanding of the game.
It was a lot of running (very little dribbling...) and shooting. But the girls tried to do it right...after all, their big brothers would never let them get away with traveling!
Kelsey scores! Great form, Kels!
Intimidating defense, Kass!
She shoots! And SCORES!
Yay, Kassie! Yes, we all saw that, Sweet Girl!
The "wall" defensive stance....Kass is getting ready to go after that ball. Go girl!
Your turn, Kels...
Meanwhile, on the other side of the gym, Kaden could hardly wait for his first game to start.
He literally lives for these moments!
Kaden is a very good player (after all, the child lives and breathes basketball!), but I'm especially proud of him for being a TEAM player. He's always looking for an opportunity to pass the ball. You don't see many team players in these young leagues. He told me his coach said that an assist is as important as a basket. Good for that coach!
Fighting for the rebound! It helps that he's bigger than the other players...
Kaden's defense is drastically improved over last year.
Fouled on the shot...
Free throw...bounced off the rim this time....
Good hustle, Kado!
But when he grabs the rebound...
...and is off on a fast break....
...you might as well just mark up two! He rarely misses opportunities like that!
But his favorite shot of the morning was a "buzzer-beater" that "sealed" the 44-4 victory.
A big victory + 10 points + a few assists = 1 happy Kaden + 1 proud Mommy!
No tears, only big smiles all morning!
A great basketball opening day.
