Kim and I are about to embark on our most ambitious and adventurous trip ever.
maps from worldatlas.com
We're going to Peru!
For those of you who, like me, are geographically challenged (I'm not sure we ever really studied geography much in school...), Peru is just below the equator on the Pacific coast of South America. It is basically a narrow strip of coastal desert hemmed in by the Andes Mountains (second highest mountain range in the world, the Himalayas being the highest). Then on the other side of the mountains, the headwaters of the Amazon River and the Amazon jungle which continue on into Brazil.
We'll be doing a few things along the coast, but most of our time will be spent on the inland side of the mountains, exploring the northern headwaters around Iquitos and the southern headwathers around Manu National Park. While we're there, we'll also spend a couple of days in the Cuzco/Machu Picchu area.
Our kids will be holding down the Gray compound and cabin while we're gone. We're so grateful for their help, allowing us to follow our travel dreams!
So...this is Not-Quite-Country Girl signing off until the end of September when you can be sure I'll have LOADS of photos and stories to tell about our Peru adventures.
Bring on the Amazon!
